The National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR) was founded in 1994 and is committed to reducing the human, social and economic costs of disability. As an education, training and research organisation, NIDMAR’s primary focus is the implementation of workplace-based reintegration programmes which international research has proven to be the most effective way of restoring and maintaining workers’ abilities. Whilst reducing the costs of sickness and disability for workers, employers, government and insurance companies, this programme has been customised to reflect both local and international standards of practice and legislation in the UK.

Well Working Matters is delighted to be the license holder and provider of the internationally recognised NIDMAR education programme. This programme delivers effective return-to-work and absence-management modules, to organisations and professionals in the absence and disability management field.

HOW NIDMAR FITS THE UK CHALLENGE

NIDMAR was developed in British Columbia Canada the curriculum has been continually updated and upgraded and has also been changed in format to consist of 25 modules which may be offered as an entire program or as independent workshop topics. The program emphasizes the skills and knowledge required to return to work individuals who have incurred injuries or illnesses and introduces the competencies that are required to administer disability management programs.Organisations in UK started to work with Nidmar in 2006, in 2015 when Well Working Matters became the licence holder to deliver the training significant change was made to the material to represent the needs of students in the UK, whilst continuing to share the international elements of the material that set the programme apart. We have also included material to cover specialist sectors such as Neurodiversity, Employability, Forensic and Learning Disabilities. The examination at the end of the course has been amended for the UK to reflect these changing practices. The course sets out to build on the existing skills of the individuals but also encourages them to explore new areas and build confidence to challenge the norm.
