How it all began...
After a successful career in the NHS working in Mental Health, I gained experience in the Private sector managing a large Residential and Nursing Home for People with Mental Health problems. Whilst there I led the team through a training regime to help them understand the needs of residents suffering from dementia and this led to the home being awarded a National Training award for the work.
I moved to Unum, a large insurer specialising in income protection insurance, involved in the early stages of establishing the Vocational Rehabilitation Team. This grew to a team of over 40 and won numerous national awards for the innovative and successful approach it brought to helping people return to work after illness or injury. I became a manager within this team looking after a team of Occupational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Nurses based all over the UK.
I was in the first UK group to gain the Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) award, also achieving the CBDMA (auditor) award from the International Disability Management Standards Council and led the NIDMAR (National Institute for Disability Management and Research) project for the time Unum held the license.
After 17 years of experience in this field, I formed ‘Well Working Matters Ltd’ (WWM) in 2013 as a Consultancy company in this niche area of absence management and return to work. Along with a few appropriately qualified associates in this specialist work, I offer a professional service to companies and individuals. WWM is aligned to and is a member of the National Standards of the Vocational Rehabilitation Association and is accredited to the International Standards of the International Disability Management Standards Council (IDMSC) through the Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) designation.
